    Vegetative Community: Coastal Sage Scrub

LULU is an Alice Water’s open-air restaurant at the Hammer Museum in Westwood, Los Angeles. In collaboration with Alice’s team we developed a narrative in alignment with Alice’s commitment to regenerative food.

Since the entire site sits above a subterranean parking garage, we were limited to planting in containers. We celebrated two large existing evergreen elms, with a kinetic understory mass of deer grass, while the perimeter of the restaurant is lined with selected native perennials, and groundcovers, championing a romantic ambiance that greets and surrounds this charming dining experience.

  • Chilopsis linearis `Art's Seedless’, Citrus x limon `Improved Meyer’, Platanus racemosa, Washingtonia filifera, Arctostaphylos densiflora `Sentinel`, Berberis pinnata `Ken Hartman`, Ceanothus x `Blue Jeans`, Eriogonum arborescens, Eriogonum giganteum, Eriophyllum nevinii `Canyon Silver`, Myrica californica, Ribes viburnifolium, Bouteloua gracilis, Calamagrostis foliosa, Carex pansa, Elymus condensatus `Canyon Prince’, Juncus patens, Muhlenbergia dubia, Sporobolus airoides, Heuchera maxima, Iris x `Canyon Snow`, Salvia spathacea
